It’s the new year, so let’s play along and pretend like we’re also starting a new marketing campaign; maybe even a new business.

For the next little while we’ll be going through a basic start-up routine.

Today, we consider Attention.

Every business starts its marketing by gaining attention. And like a diva, it thrives on attention. But how do you get attention without turning into a diva?

Let’s start here:

Now that you know where true attention bubbles up from, in the next post we’ll look at the best way to gain and keep attention.

      Hi Steve
I notice you’ve gone back to Vimeo. I just a bit curious as your your reasoning? I’ve been toying with doing so too. Looking forward to hearing more and I’m loving your new style of videos.
      All the best

Good question! These videos are 2nd level, in that they’re really for people who know something about what we’re trying to do here. YouTube is more for those who don’t. I probably should do something about this sometime. It can be quite a fraught subject. πŸ™‚

Hi Steve, Good to have you back. Always worthwhile content, no jump cuts, nice images and above all engaging and informative.

      • Steven Washer

I’ve never liked jump cuts very much. Glad to see I’m not the only one!

      Hi Steve,

It’s good to see and hear you again. And you’ve cracked one of the Tao of success here by being brief.

So many people spend an age reaching the point of their presentation …. but you do it in less than a minute.

So much more powerful for being brief.

One teacher I started following (not biz related) started out just talking normally. That’s one reason I followed him. But lately he has started speaking forcefully, almost yelling. It’s not a normal tone of voice at all. Honestly, it makes me sad. He probably has no idea he’ll lose followers now. I haven’t unsubscribed, but I’m watching my behavior closely because I’m learning from it. When watching myself provides more material than his subject matter, I will be gone.

“When watching myself provides more material than his subject matter, I will be gone.” Not many places you can get that lesson reinforced. Good call.

      TAKE. A. DEEP. BREATH.

      Ahhhhhhh that feels better!

And so did seeing your name in my inbox in Australia today!

So glad to hear from you Steve, and for your timely wisdom.

One of the very few crystal clear voices in a hub-bub of overwhelming babble from so many others online.

Thank you Steve, looking forward to hearing / seeing you again very soon!

I really like your ‘new’ style of making videos. I will re-think my own direction.

I think you and I are old enough (well, maybe just me) to see how everything comes around and seems new again πŸ™‚
