How to Put Humor in Your Marketing VideosDo you sometimes feel humor-impaired…

…or just aren’t sure how to be funny in a video?

It’s all about baby steps. This video will show you how to take those first few steps without doing any damage to the carpet or the furniture!

Seriously, though, humor is like the 3rd rail of politics for most marketers. It’s like their kryptonite. They may be great at just about everything, but without the funny, they might never have true fans.

Here’s a way to start right out of the gate with humor that will work, and with very little risk to your brand or your ego.

Plus, we’ll show you a resource that can act like your “humor brain”!

Seriously, this is what it’s like everyday at the Video BrainTrust. Do check it out.

Nice job tackling a very challenging topic to actually teach. If I may add a few maybe not so obvious points that I notice you regularly employ:

      1. Voice inflection, pitch/tone, parody, imitation, utterances

      2. Gestures, mannerisms, body positioning – especially facial expressions and hands (but the best use their head, eyes, eye brows, nose, mouth, tongue, jaw, neck, shoulders, arms hands, etc

      3. Timing – delay, pause, pregnant pause, pace, cadence

      4. Post-production – sound effects, background music, edits (cutaways, zooms, text messages, etc)

You are correct, Michael! And what a list you’ve made. I’m exhausted just reading it!
Of course a video needs to be about one thing, or it would quickly wear out its welcome. 🙂

But I agree. They all deserve more attention than they got in this particular video.

      Hi, Steve….
Do you by chance have a video showing how to put the social media share buttons on a web site, like you have above? Are they generated through you Yuvid Player?

      • Steven Washer

Yes, they can certainly be added by the Yuvid player. But for a couple of years we’ve been using a plug-in for WordPress called WPSocial SEO Booster. Don’t have a video for it yet.

      Great one, Steven 🙂

I love your contrast humor tip… which I’ve been using for years (or was it decades…? cramp!), but I’ve been using that strategy on the fly and sometimes I’d come up with the crazyest nonsense things :), which usually worked and sometimes didn’t :). I love the idea of planning it, ESPECIALLY for video creation purposes.

BTW, you are naturally a cool humorous guy. Always enjoying your vids 🙂

      Keep up the great work!

Thanks, E.G! Now you can box up your talent and broadcast it on-demand. 🙂
